Pinckney Island National Wildlife Refuge is in-between Hilton Head Island and mainland :) South Carolina. The exit is in the middle of a long bridge spanning intercoastal waterways. It's about as off grid as you can get without actually getting too far off grid. The internet says the refuge is best experienced with a bike, but you need to bring it yourself. We had to walk. Lots of photos of the refuge featured alligators, so my sister was a little nervous about being away from civilization near potentially bitey reptiles. We tried really, really hard but didn't see any gators, or snakes, or bugs. We did see beautiful landscapes including a mass
